My career trajectory is guided by my values

and connection to my community.

I was born in México and raised in East Los Angeles, California. I grew up surrounded by people from different backgrounds. This experience helped me to see and understand people and issues from many vantages.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Political Science and the Study of Race and Ethnicity at Columbia University.
My research and senior thesis focused on Latino representation in news, shifts in the news business, and platform agnosticism in storytelling. My passion for powerful storytelling and representation in media led me to a career in journalism. I completed my Master's degree in Multimedia Journalism at New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. My reporting has been featured across NBC News and MSNBC news properties, including NBC News Digital, MSNBC, and NBC News NOW, as well Telemundo Digital. My work has also been featured in other media outlets including Al-Jazeera, NPR's Latino USA, Salon, NAHJ’s Palabra, and Narratively.

My commitment to diverse storytelling led me to work at NBC Universal Comcast as the Diversity Coordinator for NBC News and MSNBC. My role had an editorial and a pipeline development focus. I produced editorial briefings, external panels, and internal briefing guides for news professionals. I also supported employee resource groups, recruitment, and development programs.

I currently work as an Associate Producer at MSNBC and NBC News.

In addition to my work in media, I also have a background in public policy and the non-profit sector. My community work focused on expanding access and equity in education, health, and immigration through policy and community development.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

To ensure fair, balanced, and accurate reporting, I encourage and practice authentic daily interaction between people of diverse backgrounds in the newsroom and in the field.

My commitment to DEI has led me to become an active member in employee resource groups, journalism associations, and, mentorship programs. My ongoing goal is to produce more diverse, equitable, and inclusive show bookings, newsgathering, reporting, and career pipelines.

I currently serve as National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ Los Angeles Chapter Vice-President. In that capacity, I have joined members of our chapter to meet with newsrooms in Southern California to discuss the recruitment, development, and retention of diverse journalists. At the national level, I worked with NAHJ National to co-produce a cultural competency handbook that offers guidance and resources to newsrooms across the country. The guide delves into coverage of the Latino community, immigration, criminal justice, and LGBTQ+ issues.
